It annoys me with modern gaming, money, graphics, basic mechanics and bare minimum ideas. Astro bot Rescue Mission (VR ONE) is still the MOST transformative game I’ve played in my adult life. People can want presentation, charm, graphics, whatever level design/easy mechanics, no puzzles (unless platforming related I assume), etc.

The simplest way to describe Astro Bot is honestly to compare it to Mario, as it employs a similar kind of “world” structure. There are six themed galaxies you’ll explore, each of which is filled with a handful of main story worlds, hidden extra levels and challenges, a boss battle, and a final world themed after a prominent PlayStation franchise. It’s unlikely that Astro Bot will save the world, let alone be successful enough to appease a company chasing endless growth, but it’s a game that we so desperately need. I don’t read the PlayStation history references as brand advertisements so much as Team Asobi trying to remind Sony of what it has lost in the PS5 era.

Astro Bot might be the best game out right now to make use of the DualSense special features. The use of haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and gyro controls makes the game’s simple mechanics shine even more as it adds so much to the gameplay. Not only this, but the game even makes use of the controller’s speakers to make the game even more immersive.
Astro Bot levels challenge players to collect all the stranded bots, but there are other things players will want to keep an eye out for as well, like coins and puzzle pieces. Everything players collect goes to Astro Bot’s hub world, the Crash Site. Here, hundreds of rescued bots congregate and can be used within the hub to rescue even more bots. Amazing game, would have been great to have had another Christmas level for this year. @Oram77 agree, definitely prefer this kind of level over the speed run levels lol that last level almost broke me. @Kienda Christmas NiGHTS was incredible and the first meaningful example of a game using the real world date and time I can remember. Nah, there are few other very good games on PS5 as well, but not too much, as with every system. I wish they did more actual levels like this rather then the speed run levels while they were enjoyable nothing can beat the free roam ones.
